What To Do When the Heat Goes Out03/08/2017Call it Murphy’s Law, or maybe just a little misfortune, but we sometimes see heat pump problems in Asheville during the winter time, when they’re needed the most to keep you toasty. While you know the team at 1st Choice Service Group Inc will forever be there ASAP when you need us for a heat pump repair, there are some things you can do to confirm that a repair is important and save yourself some expenses if it’s not. We’ve gathered this checklist of things to attempt before you give us a call. It may sound silly, but make sure everything is set to “on”. We’ve been to more than a few calls only to realize the thermostat or the heat pump itself is set to off. Inspect your thermostat to guarantee it’s on, set to the correct temperature and isn’t fixed to cool. Then try swapping out the battery, if it has one. If everything looks right, check your furnace switch (check your manual if you’re hesitant about where it is) and check your fuses and circuit breaker. Make sure your gas is on. If the furnace still hasn’t kicked on, go back to your thermostat. If it’s a programmable model, confirm that it’s revealing the accurate time. If it thinks it’s morning when it’s really night, it may not turn your heat on because it doesn’t know you’re home. Is an impasse causing your furnace to fail? Inspect your air filters to confirm they’re not clogging things up. Do you have any congested ducts, vents or cool air intakes? Are all supply registers accessible? Is your exhaust flue open? If you’ve gone through this checklist and you’re still lacking heat, call 1st Choice Service Group Inc at 828-551-2913 or schedule an appointment online and we’ll get your home back to the toasty and cozy place it should be.
